LIPITEARTM is a microemulsion composed of an aqueous phase and a lipid phase. The main components of the lipidic phase are the physiological constituents of the lachrymal fluid/tear film (phospholipids and medium-chain triglycerides). The submicroscopic lipid particles dispersed in the microemulsion protect the ocular surface by forming a thin lipid barrier very similar to the lipid layer naturally contained in the tear film.
Thanks to this mechanism LIPITEARTM helps restore the microenvironment of damaged ocular surface. Such a damage can occur due to several reasons such as an increased tendency to evaporation, an instability of the tear film, refractive or other ocular surgery, traumas, use of contact lenses or prolonged exposure to computer screens.
LIPITEARTM supports the physiological process of corneal re-epithelization following ocular surgery such as refractive surgery, cataract surgery and corneal transplant, forming a protective thin hydrophobic barrier.
LIPITEARTM is a medical device, currently marketed in Europe under its CE Mark (Class II a). LIPITEARTM has not been registered in the US yet.
